This link from The Guardian is about a female politician in Michigan being banned from using the word ‘vagina’ in a debate on abortion lead by anti-abortion activists. I wonder whether the same politicians would have banned the use of the word ‘penis’ in discussing men’s sexual health? I doubt it. As ever penis’s are cool and apparently we women envy them – although in my 68 years I’ve never met a woman who expressed a desire for one. After all who would aspire to a body part over which one has little or no control. But back to the argument – ‘penis’ is all things to all people but ‘vagina’ is distasteful and always suspect. Really – how far haven’t we come?
